2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Mixed Reception

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Hires

The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete content from the president's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After some time of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to persist seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
