The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
