From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
