Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior official commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
